Silent Auction and Other Guild Activities

Our annual silent auction was April 26, 2017. This event is always a fun time. Quilters go through our stash, books, and equipment and bring stuff in for a treasure hunt of items for the members. Proceeds from funds raised go to PBQ.

At a previous PBQ meeting, a number of guild members displayed their special skills for other members to be inspired by. There is always something to learn and generous members happy to share what they know.

Preparations for PBQ Biannual Quilt Show are underway. This year our quilt raffle is for an "INDIGO STARBURST" 85" x 91" quilt designed and assembled by a number of PBQ members. Raffle tickets are on sale now for $1.00 for one or 6 for $5.00. The quilt show will be from Friday, October 20, 2017 - Sunday, October 22, 2017 at St. Theresa's Church Hall, West Roxbury, MA. Those of you have attended previous shows know what a festive and beautiful show this is. More to come in a separate blog post. Requests for hand made items for the boutique are being made now as are other volunteer committees donations. We always have a great bake sale and raffle baskets.

This year a group of quilters from PBQ calling themselves "The Improper Boston Quilters" got together and designed and entered a quilt in the QuiltCon 2017 Modern Quilt Guild Charity Quilt Challenge in Atlanta. The quilt was displayed at the challenge exhibit in Atlanta and was donated to Casa Nueva Vida in Boston, "whose mission it is to help families develop skills and education to get out of poverty. They serve the homeless families in Greater Boston.  They have an excellent rate of success in preventing further homelessness.  The name of our quilt is 'New Home New Life'.” (Quote taken from a blog posting by one of the Improper Boston Quilters.)

We have two more meetings before the end of our winter/spring season. A separate blog will be devoted to the PBQ Quilt Biannual Quilts show coming up in October 2017.

Welcome Spring

It has been a busy winter for the members of PBQ.

Our Annual Charity Quilt-making Round Up was a huge success. We met one evening in February and set up in groups for the various stages of quilt making. It allowed us not only to contribute to a larger cause but, in some cases, to meet and talk to quilters we had not had a chance to meet before that night. There was a real sense of what a quilting bee must have been like in historical times.

The Hexagons - Traditional and Modern Quilts Exhibit at the West Roxbury Public Library that took place in January was another exhibit of the creative and talented quilters of PBQ. It was well attended and some of the attendees were asking about the guild and how to join. The feedback was highly favorable!

A PBQ group quilt recently hung in the Modern Quilter show in South Carolina. Congratulations to that group.

PBQ has a number of events coming up this Spring:  Member Demonstration Meeting, Workshop with Marge Tucker on March 25, 2017, Maine Quilt Camp in April, Silent Auction Meeting, Mystery Quilt Unveiled, Spring Pot Luck—last meeting of the year—in June, and New Hampshire Quilt Camp in June.

We are preparing for our 2017 Bi-annual Quilt show that will take place in the fall. Our raffle quilt is well under way to completion and beautiful already. We will have more information on our show in future blogs.

Happy Spring 2017!
